Edwardson Drive
William edwardson was confidential Clerk in the Commissariat Department in Sydney when placed in command of HM Cutter “Snapper” and sent to explore the coast north of latitude 28 30s. Edwardson’s brief account of his experiences in the waterway. “The Ship’s channel into this place, the only possible one to get through, lies close to the beach of Point Skirmish and has 4 fathoms at low water. The Natives are too numerous to risk a landing except on the islands. Taking a view of this place (Moreton Bay), it is my humble opinion extremely dangerous for even the smallest vessels to enter, except in the Pumice Stone River does not afford the least shelter or safe anchorage”. On leaving Moreton Bay, Edwardson proceeded to Hervey Bay and proved Fraser Island to be an Island. He died in Sydney in 1826.
