Bora Bora is located in the Pacific, French Polynesia; it is one of those places where you won't believe your eyes how beautiful it is unless you see it for yourself.
The island is just 18 miles in circumference and enclosed a lagoon of an incredible colour of turquoise and a barrier reef.
In the centre of the island are two peaks of extinct volcanos.

James Cook sighted the island in 1769 and then landed in 1777 on a subsequent visit. However, in 1842 Bora Bora was made a protectorate of France.

Following the 7 December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbour by Japan, the United States chose Bora Bora as a South Pacific military supply base.  The base was officially closed on 2 June 1946, and remnants can still be seen on the island.

During the August 2007 census, the population on Bora Bora Island was about 8,880 people.
