A noxious fish is one that has been declared as harmful under Queensland law because it is, or may become, a pest to native aquatic communities.
Noxious fish have characteristics which are detrimental to other fish, aquatic habitats or humans.
Queensland has added the National Noxious Fish List to its existing legislation.
Noxious fish cannot be kept, hatched, reared or sold, or taken home for eating or any other purpose.
Penalties of up to $200,000 apply.
